We offer a breakfast, afterschool and holiday club for children attending Cottenham Primary School from our base in the village hall.

KS1 (Reception, Year 1, 2 and 3), children are dropped off to the Infant playground in the mornings and collected from the class teacher at the end of the school day. KS2 (Year  4, 5, 6) children are also dropped of to the school playground in the mornings and make their own way to a meeting point within the school at the end of the school day. Daily registers are taken on school grounds to ensure all children have been collected, children are then walked across to the village hall by a member of the CKC staff team via a walking bus.

What the club offers:

We are a self-directed PLAY based provision.

Play is a process that is freely chosen, personally directed and intrinsically motivated. That is, children and young people determine and control the content and intent of their play, by following their own instincts, ideas and interests, in their own way for their own reasons.

This is very different from the classroom environment, which can be (and sometimes needs to be) a very structured environment. We believe that after a long day at school or term of learning, children want to come to us to have fun and freedom in an unstructured self motivated way. Children will learn skills that they need in the growing up process, but in a different way to school.

The Breakfast Club

Breakfast School Club operates from 7.45am to 9am, Key Stage 1 Children will be escorted to their classrooms and key stag2 children will be escorted to the school playground and are expected to walk to their classrooms by themselves.

Breakfast: We offer children a choice of a healthy breakfast each morning, which usually consists of a mix of Cereal, Milk, Fruit, Toast, Crumpets and water

The After School Club

After School Club operates from the end of the School day to either 4:30pm or 6pm, Key Stage 1 children will be collected from their classrooms by a playworker and key stage 2 children will be expected to make their own way to a meeting point for the afterschool club, where they will be met by a CKC staff member. All children will then be walked over to the Village Hall where the club is based.

After School Snack: We provide all children with a light snack around 4pm, examples of what we offer include soup, wraps, yoghurts, fruit, squash and water.

Children who attend an extra circular club at the school will be collected by a playworker and a snack will be offered  to them when they arrive at the after school club.

The Holiday Club

The holiday club operates from 8am – 6pm with a full and varied programme of activities and trips. Each week has a theme to it and the activities and outings are based around that theme. This will be emailed out to you around 6 weeks before the start of the holiday for you to book the specific days. For children staying all day, a mid-morning snack and a light afternoon snack is provided. We ask you to provide a pack lunch.

Parent Partnership

Parents are at liberty to spend time with their children at any time during the sessions provided that it does not unsettle the child. The Club Leader, The After-School Co-ordinator and the director are always ready to discuss your child's progress and deal with any concerns you may have.

Each month we circulate a newsletter providing parents with up-to-date information on what is going on within the Cambridge Kids Club and matters of general interest.

The Club has formulated a set of policies relating to its approach towards issues such as anti-discrimination, child abuse, staff selection etc. Please feel free to ask for a set of these policies that will, in any case, be provided upon your enrolling your child.

Parents are encouraged to offer their time to take a session at the Club should they have any expertise or special interest which the children might enjoy hearing about.

What Parents and Ofsted Say About Us

The club has a calm and busy feel and children spend sustained periods of time involved in activities and games that fully engage them. Staff provide a wide variety of activities that are adapted and moulded to the desires of the children attending the session.

The club provides children with regular opportunities for fresh air and exercise. As they play outside, they catch balls and engage in running races. The club regularly accesses the neighbouring park where children make use of climbing equipment and swings, developing the large muscles in their bodies.

Both boys have had the most wonderful experience at Kids Club, and the excellent provision for XXX was particularly important for us as it made keeping him in mainstream education a viable option (as well as enabling me to keep working). Thanks to all concerned!
